I got a lot of painting done this weekend. I started working on the boy’s face. It’s not finished. I just ended up with so much paint on it that I’ll have to let it sit for a while. It’s a good start though and will give me a good base to start with.

I got the Painting and Sketches section up and running. They sure don’t have everything, but everything there works! You can view the paintings here and the sketches here.

Tonight I worked on adding color to the crown and hair. I think it’s off to a good start but definitely just a start. I’m going to have to go over it again later a couple of times. But I’m done with building the website now for the most part, so back to painting.

Well, I started adding color to the buffalo painting. Got the wood grain of the walls and roof of the barn as well as a start on the sky. Also got the chair started so things are shaping up. I’m still pretty happy with where this painting seems to be going. I’m sure that will change soon! See the big pictures after the jump!

I just really wanted to do a painting with a buffalo in it for some reason. I think we were talking about the sentence “Buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo.” at work or something. Anyway, I got started on this one here. I kind of like where it’s going so far. Looks like it’ll be fun to paint. This is just a wash of burnt umber to get the lights and darks right before I start adding color. Here’s the progress I’ve made on Painting 4. I worked on the boot, figure eight with flowers, baseball, bow tie and more. There’s a ways to go on this one though. I’m really happy with the baseball and the boot. Getting into some really fun stuff! Larger picture after the jump.

Picked up some steam on this piece. Painted a big partial devil face and a pair of dice and a lot of other elements too. I’m really happy with both of those. Some of the extra elements will definitely be changing as the painting comes together. There’s a big wheel full of stuff that I think turned out horrible. And the big yellow diamond will become a kind of street sign. Hopefully. A larger, but crappy, pic after the jump!

I started laying down the color on this one. These are so intricate that I usually don’t take the time to do value studies or anything, I just paint right over the line drawing. I do this mostly just to save time because these take so long to do. I go item by item sometimes only doing one a sitting. It’s really frustratingly slow sometimes, but I really enjoy these. The Mario mushroom was really a pain to draw and get right, I had to use a grid system to get the pixels right, but I love how it turned out. Really at that point I just had to get the colors right and stay in the lines. See a larger image after the jump.

Painting four is ready to go. The drawing is done and I’m set to start painting. This one is huge. Somehow Joe convinced me to do a really big one in this series and it’s really overwhelming. But I’m excited about it. I’m sure it’ll take me a while to complete but hopefully it’ll be worth it. The ones I’ve done up til now have all been rather small, around the 14 to 18 inch range. There’s a lot of elements in this one that I can’t wait to paint though. You can’t tell much from the larger photo, but it’s after the jump!
