Library Painting – DeWitt Public Library

DeWitt Public Library

Oil Painting

“Collage Six”
Brandon D Hunt
Oil on Canvas
30″ x 40″
This piece is one of a series of paintings I have done that all feature a “collage” of subject matter and random imagery. To start the pieces I sometimes begin with a rough idea or feeling and then just let the images come through me and onto the canvas as a stream of consciousness. For this piece, I choose to be inspired by literary works for young adults. The images and symbols found in the piece all represent specific objects, ideas or feelings that come from popular books. There are a lot of references to fantasy books from Harry Potter to Lord of the Rings as well as more autobiographical works such as Little House on the Prairie and Maus. The purpose of the piece is to showcase and celebrate the exciting and wonderful worlds contained in books for young adults. This painting was a commissioned piece done for the DeWitt Public Library.
