I began working for the Atlanta Lyric Theatre roughly 10 years ago and at that time, they had a logo that was serving them fine and just needed some minor tweaks, which we took care of. After 10 years and many changes and growth, the musical theatre company was ready for a logo redesign. It was time to give their logo a big update. When looking at changing an existing logo and branding, I always think of it in two different ways: is it an evolution (of the brand) or a revolution? This project was pushing the boundaries of the evolution as we wanted to keep some elements (the star graphic and color family) but otherwise shake things up. The new focus was on the name and having “Lyric” be the most prominent. We updated the font to a bold face of a font we had recently started using, which kept it still in the establish style, but appearing in the logo was a big change. The star remained as it has been an important part of the company’s history, but now moved over the “i” in Lyric. Above you can see the previous logo as compared to the new, current logo. A version was also done for the Lyric Studio Theatre, which is their black box venue. Examples of how the logo was incorporated in promotional materials are located in the bottom right.
