Atlanta City Theatre (atlantacitytheatre.com) is the student group formed to support the theatre department at Georgia State University’s School of Film, Media and Theatre (https://fmt.gsu.edu/). Previously called the GSU Players, they recently updated their name and were ready for a total brand overhaul. While Atlanta City Theatre (ACT) is completely separate from the university, we did want to make the logo complimentary. It needed to stand out from the GSU brand, but also looked like it belonged. We chose colors that worked well with the established GSU brand and found typography that was unique and more organic than what the university uses, while also being strong enough to not get lost visually next to any of GSU identity. In addition to the logo, we developed a whole brand guide to help staff and students create their own marketing and promotional pieces as needed while keeping them all consistent. The new name, along with the new brand and supporting elements, will help reinvigorate the student group and improve their exposure throughout the theatre community of greater Atlanta.
