Out Front Theatre Company (outfronttheatre.com) is back for another incredible season, and I’m thrilled to once again be the designer behind the graphic identity for their full lineup of shows. As Georgia’s only LGBTQIA+ theatre, Out Front continues to bring bold, vibrant, joyful storytelling to Atlanta, and the design work for each season is always one of the most creatively energizing projects on my calendar.
This season’s five shows couldn’t be more diverse in tone, style, and visual personality, which made for a genuinely fun creative challenge. Each show got its own distinct graphic treatment, its own color world, typography approach, and illustrative sensibility, while all five still feel like part of the same season family. Now that the core visual identities are locked in, a full suite of promotional materials (posters, postcards, playbills, social media graphics, digital ads, and more) will roll out across the season.
Here’s a look at each show and the design approach behind it.
Once Upon a One More Time
October 22 – November 7, 2026
Based on the music performed and recorded by Britney Spears, with a book by Jon Hartmere, Once Upon a One More Time opens the season with a show that is pure spectacle. The graphic treatment leans into a dreamy, disco-drenched fantasy world — glittering blues, electric silhouettes, and a storybook script title treatment that feels simultaneously theatrical and unmistakably pop. This is a show that arrives with a built-in visual vocabulary, and the design embraces it with full confidence.
Liza’s Christmas With a Z!
December 3–19, 2026
A Gay Fantasia on Holiday Themes by Blake Fountain, Liza’s Christmas With a Z! is the season’s holiday offering, and the design is as festive and over-the-top as the title suggests. Rich reds, lush holiday greenery, glittering ornaments, and a bold retro sensibility come together in a graphic treatment that feels like the most glamorous holiday party you’ve ever been invited to. The exclamation point on the title is not optional — and neither is any of the energy in this design.
Lipstick
January 28 – February 13, 2027
By Lane Michael Stanley, Lipstick gets one of the season’s most striking visual treatments. A bold yellow background sets the stage for a collage of expressive mouths — open, laughing, dramatic — arranged in a dynamic grid that immediately commands attention. The hand-lettered title treatment in a rich, theatrical red anchors the composition and gives the whole piece an energy that feels raw, confident, and completely alive. This one stops you in your tracks.
Pure Glitter
March 11–27, 2027
By Douglas Lyons, Pure Glitter does exactly what its name promises. The design is an explosion of celebration — confetti, cocktails, shimmering purple typography, and the kind of visual exuberance that makes you want to get dressed up just looking at it. This is a show that lives at the intersection of glamour and joy, and the graphic treatment makes sure you know it from the very first glance.
The Big Gay Jamboree
April 29 – May 15, 2027
The season closes with The Big Gay Jamboree, and it goes out with a bang. With a book by Marla Mindelle and Jonathan Parks-Ramage and music and lyrics by Marla Mindelle and Philip Drennen, this show gets a graphic treatment as big and bold as its title. A sweeping rainbow arcs over theatrical red curtains, the title treatment is gloriously oversized and exuberant, and the whole composition radiates the kind of pure, unbridled celebration that makes for a perfect season finale.
Season Advertisement
Bringing all five shows together into a single cohesive season advertisement is always one of the most satisfying parts of the process. The season ad showcases all five show graphics in a unified layout alongside Out Front’s branding and a clear call to action for season packages and single tickets. It’s the piece that says: this is a season worth showing up for, start to finish.
Five shows, five completely distinct visual worlds, one cohesive season. It’s always a privilege to be the creative partner behind Out Front Theatre’s work, and the 2026-2027 season is shaping up to be one for the books. Stay tuned for the full rollout of promotional materials as each show’s opening night approaches!
