Families First (familiesfirst.org), Georgia’s largest family and children’s services organization, offers a range of valuable services, with education around family issues being one of its key offerings. Among these services is “Partners in Parenting,” a course designed to educate parents on successful co-parenting strategies. Often utilized by parents navigating a recent divorce, this course plays a crucial role in fostering a healthier approach for adults and, consequently, their children during challenging times. Recognizing the need for a significant visual upgrade to the course materials, Families First enlisted the expertise of a graphic designer – that’s me.
My first task was to create a new logo for the rebranded “Partners in Parenting,” ensuring it aligned with the Families First brand while still possessing its own unique and recognizable identity. Next, I embarked on overhauling the design of the parent handbook. Spanning 104 pages, this handbook serves as a resource that parents continue to use long after completing the course. The previous version suffered from cluttered layout and lacked readability. Taking a fresh approach with substantial content updates, we aimed to craft a more inviting, clear, and inclusive handbook. Unlike its predecessor, the new handbook features ample photography that reflects the diverse range of individuals and family structures participating in the course.
Once the parent handbook design was well underway, attention turned to the presenter’s guide. While nearly as lengthy as the handbook, the guide contained fewer graphics and photographs. With a heavier focus on content, it was imperative to organize and layout the guide in a manner that facilitated quick navigation for presenters. Additionally, I revamped the PowerPoint presentation and accompanying graphics to ensure alignment with the new look and feel of the handbook and guide, thereby establishing a cohesive visual identity for this vital initiative.
